SANTA SUSANA, Ventura County — Ventura County’s public hydrology network operates an active recording precipitation gauge named Santa Susana, identified as Station 193A.
The county lists the gauge at approximately 960 feet elevation within Calleguas Creek Zone 3. It publishes historical daily and hourly rainfall totals along with preliminary and unverified telemetry data. The station record reaches back decades, allowing researchers and residents to compare storm periods, although the most recent readings may not have completed quality checks.
Rainfall measured at one gauge does not necessarily represent what fell at every home in the Santa Susana hills. Local topography can cause substantial differences during a storm, and gauge totals by themselves do not determine whether a creek or roadway is safe. The availability of unverified telemetry is not the same as a county-issued flood warning.
What residents should know
Residents should use the gauge for context and consult Ventura County’s actual flood warnings, weather forecasts and road-closure notices for safety decisions. Do not drive into flooded roads even if the apparent water level seems low.
